Silicone Fluid Advantages
XIAMETER silicone fluids give you formulating and performance advantages organic (carbon-based) fluids can’t match. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is a good example. PDMS fluids:
- Easily wet most surfaces and ingredients
- Have a unique sensory feel and lubricity
- Flow more easily and are capable of forming thinner (monomolecular) films
- Have stronger, more stable bonds; this makes them more resistant to harsh environmental, processing and operating conditions
- Offer more viscosity choices than hydrocarbon fluids, so it’s easier to get exactly the viscosity you need
- Viscosity and flow characteristics are less affected by temperature and shear forces
- Perform across a broader temperature range
- Can align their functional groups more effectively at interfaces; can more easily “connect” with other materials and formulation ingredients
Composition
XIAMETER silicone fluids are undiluted liquid siloxane polymers. They range in viscosity from fluids thinner than water to thicker than chewing gum.
Depending on their chemical structure, XIAMETER silicone fluids can be:
- Nonreactive ... or reactive (capable of reacting with other materials or formulation ingredients)
- Nonvolatile ... or volatile
